Dr Katie Newton set up Drowsy Bee in response to the degradation of the UK flower market.

Flowers used to be natural, straight from the garden of mad ladies in stately homes, apparently, then they were shipped from around the world, lost their smell, delicacy and Englishness. Drowsy Bee brings all this back.

Ancient formula; modern elixir

Nonsuch approached me in a consultancy capacity to carry out a brand audit and establish where the identity needed to change. This culminated in an an audit report, reworked communications document and moodboard to brief the photographer and social marketing team.

From here I refreshed the logo to fit the new positioning, followed by website and new packaging labels.

The website was built using the shopify platform as a brand discovery journey and online shop integrating with Nonsuch’s fulfilment house as well as allowing for recipes linked to the products, news and events.

The website also integrates with the Klaviyo mail system, Instagram and Facebook shopping.

Ed Berger is a herbal medicine lecturer and practitioner his knowledge and understanding of medicinal plants is humbling. For his logo he wanted to use one of these herbs. I took a flower pressing and then created a digital imprint that by overlapping the leaves, if you look carefully, created a shape of the green man at the top of the logo

Everything you need in the landscape garden trade.

Arbour Landscape Solutions approached me to carry out a brand evolution project. Starting with their logo, then rolling out the brand across each touchpoint including the new website.

What I did
We commenced with an in depth brand strategy workshop conducted via zoom due to the pandemic then I started sketching ideas around the 2 core aspects of the initial logo; circle and leaf. Working through an iterative sketch process from original to concept.

On presentation of these worked up concepts, we selected, developed and looked at how the sub brands would sit within that concept.

The evolved family of logos; umbrella brand and 3 sub brands needed to be recognisable to loyal customers, whilst representing the growth of the business to a professional, trade only, one stop shop of landscaping products. 

The logo development was narrowed to two and then one, where I looked at the detail of typeface, colour and sub brand. Each sub brand needed to appeal to a more niche audience.

The final logo used a modernised version of the leaf evoking the original brand, with the addition of a supporting structure representing the level of service and  customer support. The crossover of the structure suggesting the inclusion of hard landscaping and finally the colour evolved from the original and segmented to represent the different categories of products.

From there I created assets for communication, social media and worked on both UX and UI design for the new ecommerce website.

Herber approached me having tried to create their own website but getting stuck. I took them through a workshop to see if I could help them finish what they had started or if the discovery dictated we would be better to work together to create a new website. This process also uncovered the need for a logo and identity based on the herbal illustrations that Sarah creates.

So I created a brand identity and online presence to create awareness and sell their workshops via the website, whilst taking their seasonal diary and herb kitchen recipes online and introducing people to what Herber offer.

Supporting and promoting the art of letter carving.

LAT approached me with a fantastic brief and challenging deadline. We started by auditing the content and creating user journeys to map out the full extent of pages, paths and actions. We did this via workshops to create wireframes and a sitemap to inform both the designer and copy writer. The website needed to showcase the 4 main aspects of the charity; Artists Register, Training, Support and Commissions through a variety of features and functionality such as galleries, events, workshops, lead gen, e-commerce shop, donations and annual subscriptions. At the same time we needed to sensitively incorporate their Memorials by Artists business and generate revenue and time saving functionality. We all worked hard, had fun and hit the deadline!

Coffee Blends with Attitude

Mr Beans was a start up looking to disrupt the coffee norm. So we carried out a design thinking workshop to pinpoint what that disruption should be. In a market of single origin sophistication, ethical etiquette and complicated brews, he wanted to provide simple sustainable blends that did what they said on the tin… well bag.

With a bit of cheeky two fingers up to the industry I created the Street Art Logo and ‘Coffee This Good Should Be Banned’ strapline, followed by packaging and the website. Promoting street art and providing great, no fuss coffee.
